At the 2024 Venice Film Festival, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli was honoured at a gala with Qatar Museums, sparking speculation about Qatari involvement in future film projects. Broccoli is reportedly seeking financing for Othello, a stage production starring Daniel Craig. While there are whispers about Bond visiting Doha, this remains pure speculation and Qatar’s human rights record would make such a partnership contentious.
Daniel Craig, meanwhile, has made a striking post-Bond turn with his role in Queer, based on William S Burroughs’ semi-autobiographical novel. Craig portrays William Lee, a troubled American confronting his sexuality in 1950s Mexico. The role is a stark departure from the confident, polished 007, reflecting Craig’s desire to challenge himself with provocative, unconventional roles following his Bond exit.
Adding to the Bond atmosphere, Aston Martin showcased its new Vanquish model at the festival, with George Clooney making a glamorous appearance alongside the car. Known for its association with 007, Aston Martin’s latest supercar combines cutting-edge technology with the signature luxury and power the brand is known for.
