Gaming chief discusses Project 007

IO Interactive hints at young Bond origin story for gamers, teases potential trilogy.

IO Interactive’s upcoming Project 007 promises to deliver a fresh take on James Bond, introducing a younger version of the iconic spy crafted specifically for gamers. The studio, known for its Hitman series, is creating an original story, independent of the films, focusing on Bond’s origins. CEO Hakan Abrak revealed that the game is progressing “amazingly well” and hinted at the possibility of a trilogy, stating that the team hopes to build a Bond universe that players can grow with over time.

Unlike some previous Bond games, Project 007 won’t follow an existing movie plot. Instead, it will present a new take on the character’s early days, offering a more immersive, world-spanning spy experience, allowing players to connect with a Bond developed entirely for their enjoyment. According to Abrak, the original narrative will be something gamers can call their own—a “young Bond for gamers.”

IO Interactive has won acclaim for its mastery of stealth gameplay in Hitman, and that expertise is expected to lend itself well to the world of 007. Although Bond’s gaming history is marked by hits and misses—most notably Goldeneye—Abrak expressed confidence that this new project will “define James Bond in gaming for years to come.”

Abrak praised the producers of the film franchise for keeping Bond relevant through the years, acknowledging that the task at hand is monumental. Although Project 007 has not yet revealed many details, Bond fans can expect more updates soon as development continues smoothly. With the potential for a trilogy and a rich, immersive universe, Project 007 aims to revitalise the character in gaming, filling the 15-year gap since the last major Bond title.
